Why Wasn't Beyonce at the Emmys?

Why was Beyonce a no-show at Sunday night's Emmy Awards?
The superstar singer was nominated with Kahlil Joseph for outstanding directing for a variety special for her Lemonade visual special on HBO and her appearance was expected — as evidenced by a seating card for her that showed up online. (Beyonce had an aisle seat in front of Kyle Chandler and right behind Liev Schreiber.) But she failed to appear, disappointing many.

There had even been rumors Beyonce would give a surprise performance. However, a producer from the show told Billboard on Monday that she was never scheduled to perform.
Ultimately, Beyonce's visual album lost out to Grease: Live directors Thomas Kail and Alex Rudzinski, but her presence was missed regardless. John Oliver was supposed to be seated two rows behind her and made mention of her absence backstage while speaking with press.
"I thought Beyonce was going to be here," said the Last Week Tonight host. "I saw a seating chart and I was supposed to sit two rows behind her, so all I've really been thinking about for the last 48 hours is, 'I'm going to be able to look at Beyonce's head for four hours.' And she hasn't turned up. So, this is nice, but this evening generally has a sense of loss in it for me.
"I was gonna stare at the back of her head and experience happiness in a form that I probably haven't felt before," he added. "But probably wisely for 'Yonce, she's given this evening a pass."
Bey's fans also took umbrage with her absence, in particular because they felt taken advantage of by the show's producers who had apparently reached out asking for help promoting her appearance with a fan art campaign. In a direct message exchange later published on social media between the awards show's producer Don Mischer Productions and Twitter account The Beyhive, Don Mischer Productions blamed Beyonce's absence on her health and cited her ongoing Formation World Tour.
Beyonce's reps did not respond to a request for comment.
